Matt Geiger

Matt Geiger is a business trial attorney with 28 years of experience in Kansas City courtrooms. Matt simplifies complex cases for arbitrators, judges and juries with clear narratives, compelling themes and effective technology. Most of his cases involve ownership disputes in private companies, litigation over the purchase or sale of a business, and C-level executive compensation and liability.

Matt is immersed in the capital markets. He has an in-depth understanding of agriculture, banking, business services, construction, energy, health care, insurance, manufacturing, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, real estate development, specialty retail, telecommunications, transportation, and wealth management/RIAs. He also has experience in all types of contract actions and business torts, shareholder rights and remedies, officer and director liability, employment claims, trade secrets and restrictive covenants, unfair competition, insurance coverage, and family wealth litigation.

Matt has tried five handshake agreement cases to verdict or judgment in Kansas and Missouri, representing clients on both sides of the issue. He has advised boards of directors, audit committees and other law firms in the discrete management of internal investigations. He has represented clients facing regulatory, civil, and white-collar criminal charges — all at the same time. His diverse legal experience allows Matt to develop winning strategies for his clients, as well as solutions to their problems inside and outside the courtroom.

As a proud panelist for the American Arbitration Association, Matt serves as an arbitrator in commercial disputes. He has an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale and has been recognized by Super Lawyers® every year since 2008. Matt is also a Fellow with the Litigation Counsel of America, and a member of its Trial Law Institute.

Matt graduated with distinction in 1998 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served as note editor for the Oklahoma Law Review and competed on the OU National Trial Team. He graduated cum laude and a McMahon Scholar from the University of Oklahoma in 1995. Before founding his own law firms, Matt learned his trade at Bryan Cave and Rouse Hendricks German May in Kansas City, where he continues to enjoy strong friendships.

Matt serves on the Board of Directors for the Midwest Innocence Project, and he is a Trustee of the Johnson County Bar Foundation. He enjoys working outdoors, hiking in the National Parks, and collecting stories from around the world.
